We are not sending the tickets home with the students. Also, this is not a "field trip." Students need to arrange for transportation from family or friends. Thank you!I would like to thank all of this year's Boosters for a great year. We have accomplished so much and we couldn't have done it without any of you! Your consistent attendance at meetings and willingness to jump in and help has made so much possible!
Thank you also to the Music Parents that give us a lot of help, even though they cannot make it to our meetings. For example, a special thank you goes out to Karen Druffel for teaching me how to make this website and set up PayPal purchases! She also brought her sewing machine to school and made alterations to tuxedo shirts for some of our students. Neal Naito secured 2 grants for us this year, bringing master musicians to work with our students in jazz and orchestra. Mona Bao, Lisa Upton, LeAnn Young, and several others collected items from local vendors for our Music with the Sharks raffle. We received outstanding help from many PTA parents (such as Tonya Sigalis and Marie Fiorello) to set up for the Music with the Sharks concert -- even though they neither of their children were performing that night! We had new faces on the "road crew" this year. Edwina Britt, Donna Sudbrook, and Mary Nicklin helped us set up, coordinate, and advertise the ShopWithScrip program. Even handing out programs, setting up the snack table at concerts, and "guarding" the door during concerts is a job we appreciate! Every effort you make, no matter how small it may seem, contributes to our success by freeing up the music directors (or sometimes another volunteer) to accomplish something else. I would also like to thank the staff at Bonnie Branch. Claire Striebich, Billie Roogow, Nan Brown, and of course Cher Jones -- it is such a tremendous pleasure to belong to a school where the staff and administration support the music programs! I'm looking forward to another successful year at Bonnie Branch next year, as well as helping the transition to keep our successful momentum going after I "graduate" to Howard High. |
Frederick Keys Game - Rain PlansThe weather is looking "iffy," but we are hoping for the best. The Boosters will not cancel our event independently from the Keys, so if the Keys are playing, so are we! For last minute status, check the Frederick Keys Rain Hotline phone number: 301.662.0013 or their main web page.
By the way, according to the Keys website, tonight is a special game night at Harry Grove Stadium: The Frederick Keys are celebrating the 2014 World Cup tonight! Four nations will square off in "on field competitions" throughout the game! By the end of the game one country will be crowned the winner and there will be fireworks after the game to celebrate! There may be a delayed start or possibly a temporary delay during the early innings, but we are hoping the weather will clear early enough to get the game in ... and hopefully the fireworks will make it worth the wait! Here is an excerpt from the Keys website about rain: If it is raining before the game... If the rain stops before the scheduled game start time, the game will continue as planned. If the rain continues into the scheduled game time, Keys management will invoke a rain delay. If the game is canceled due to rain (either before or during the game), your tickets may be exchanged at the Box Office for a comparable ticket of equal or lesser value to any remaining 2014 regular season home game, based on availability. Hope to see you all tonight!! If you need to cancel at the last minute, please send Corby Jacobs a short text: 410-340-8150. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE EMAIL Corby Jacobs AT [email protected] News!Announcing our new president! Aaron Jacoby will lead the Music Boosters next year. Aaron will have two music students at BBMS next year, one daughter that plays trumpet, and another daughter that plays clarinet. LeAnn Young will be our secretary, Kristen Coffee will continue as our treasurer, Margie Pleat will continue to chair the uniform committee, and I (Corby) will step into the vice-president role next year.
Join Us!With that said, we need new parents to join the boosters to "learn the ropes." Since the Bonnie Branch Music Boosters started in the fall of 2008, the band, orchestra, and chorus programs at Bonnie Branch have grown tremendously, both in numbers and in skills. We have many more students participating in the Solo and Ensemble Fair, in band, orchestra, and notably, chorus. We have 2 jazz bands now, when we had none before. Parents working together with our outstanding music directors have made this possible. We have a lot of fun in this group and we want future generations of Bonnie Branch musicians to have the same fun and success. Our efforts have also helped to build the band, orchestra, and chorus at Howard High School. In the past 10 years, the Howard orchestra has gone from one orchestra of about 12 students to two separate orchestras of about 90 students total. Their bands and choral groups have also experienced a similar increase.
Encouraging middle school students to participate and continue in music is a great way to volunteer -- help us keep the momentum going at Bonnie Branch! |
